Electric beds and mattresses

There are a number of different power features that can be included on certain beds, or some top-of-the-range bed products. These features include, tilt adjustment of the beds mattress, the provision of heat and a massage or relaxation function.

The latter two facilities are embedded within the mattress body's upper surface.

Remote adjustment electric beds

By using a series of electric motors and one or more remote control units, the angle or tilt of a mattress can be adjusted to provide the optimum level of orthopaedic support.

Beds with this functionality are available in single or double sizes and usually have independent remote control units for each half of the double bed which is normally split between two separate mattresses.

Beds featuring adjustable tilt and angle inclination are easier to get in and out of and allow activities like reading and watching TV to be performed in the most comfortable of postures. These beds have mattresses with positive orthopaedic properties and they can be of great benefit to the elderly, or those with mobility problems or chronic back pain.

At the top end of the adjustable bed range, the remote units can store favourite mattress positions enabling pre-settings to be selected quickly and easily selected.

Electric beds use mechanical or hydraulic power to manoeuvre the mattresses angle, and the inclination may be limited to the upper half of the mattress, or have separate adjustment for both the top and the bottom.

Massage mattresses

Massage mattresses can be purchased separately, or included within beds that incorporate a special massage function. These massage functions vary from vibrating mattresses to mattresses that provide a Swedish style massage sensation.

The amount of money that you spend on the mattress will determine the complexity and number of settings of the massage facility. Many people find that these relaxing sensations can make them feel better at any point during the day, or assist in preparing them for sleep at night time.

Heated mattresses

Many electric mattresses include a heat function similar to that of a heated blanket. These heat functions have a remote control and use a thermostat.
