ORTHOPAEDIC MATTRESS
Magnetic mattress pads
Magnetic mattress pads are a relatively new innovation in bedding and,
using a loose definition, may be described as orthopaedic in nature.
Magnetic pads have a number of health related claims made of them and there is some degree of research to support these claims.
The main concept behind magnetic mattress pads is that they improve sleep by using concentric circle magnets which are imbedded in to the upper layer of a mattress. The health claim is that these magnetic pads improve circulation, promote healing and assist in the relief of pain. In so doing they also improve the quality of night time rest.
What magnetic mattress pads do
A Magnetic Mattress, or more typically a mattress pad topper, is covered with small magnets that creates a magnetic field above it. Anyone sleeping within this field of magnets benefits from the magnetic therapy it provide and gains the healing, circulatory and pain relief benefits mentioned previously.
Magnetic Mattresses and pads are said to offer magnetic therapy while you sleep and it is claimed that they relieve chronic pain conditions. A more detailed list of their claims include that, they cure insomnia, fibromyalgia, reduce pain, accelerate healing, ease systemic arthritis, improve circulation and reduce bone, joint and muscle pains.
Most magnetic mattress pads are typically two to four inches deep and comprise between fifty and two hundred magnets which are built into the mattress or topper. The magnets are usually set to a depth of about one inch beneath the top surface of the pad and they are about one inch in diameter and spaced at two to three inches apart.
Many of the claims made of this kind of magnetic therapy seem optimistic, however, there has been some research to suggest that there is some truth in some of the claims and this form of silent treatment and therapy is increasing in popularity.
Final thoughts
Some recent research and the feedback of proponents of magnetic therapy suggest that, when using a magnetic mattress or topper, it is possible to experience a deeper and more rejuvenating sleep and to wake-up free of some aches, pains and discomforts. However, before you buy a magnetic mattress or mattress pad it is advisable to do some research of your own and the internet is a good place to start.
Do not use a magnetic mattress pad or similar product if you have an implanted pacemaker or any other device that is affected by electro magnetic energy.
